dramatic irony
Dramatic irony occurs when the affairs are the tragic reverse of what the participants expected. An example of dramatic irony is when Beowulf and his brave warriors first arrive at the shore of Denmark. The watchman perceives Beowulf’s group as Danes’ enemy; however, the audience knows that Beowulf and his crew are there to help the Danes to eradicate Grendel.
